VOIP SoftwareWhat VoIP Software Makes all Your Calls Work? All computer systems are made up of hardware and software. The hardware basically are the parts that you see, such as the processing unit, screen, keyboard, mouse, speakers, routers, external modems and any number of other toys you may have. All of these pieces work together with the use of software. For example if you go to the store and buy a computer and hook it up, nothing will happen unless it has an operating system inside. That's an example of a piece of software. In this day and age, if you want to add a new program to your PC or notebook computer, you don't even have to go to the store. In many cases you just log onto the Internet, look for what you want, pay for it unless it's free, and download it. An example might be your virus protection. You can research the various companies and check out what they offer. Once you choose the one you like, you need only push a button to install it. It's actually wise to send for a disk in case you need to reload it, but the point is you don't have to. VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) software is no different. That's the program that allows you to make your telephone calls via the Internet. When you don't use a handset but call PC to PC there is more hardware involved. Usually both parties need the same program to connect them, but they also need a computer, a sound card, speakers and a microphone. When you use phones, you need an adapter and sometimes a router, but the connection is made through software. VoIP software is what you're studying when you compare service providers and check out their services and rates. Needless to say some are better than others. That's not just regarding what you pay, but it's also about the quality of the calls. In the early days, the main complaint about VoIP software is that the calls had echoes, voices sounded tinny, there were hesitations, or sometimes they dropped off altogether. Thanks to software designers and improvement in some of the hardware, calling quality has improved a great deal. Although service providers are continually working out the kinks, they are also always looking to the future. The latest efforts are directed at creating wireless VoIP software.
