VOIP Phone SystemsThere are Several VoIP Phone Systems AvailableIf you're planning on trying VoIP in your home, there are several ways you can use the technology. Voice over Internet Protocol basically lets you do your telephoning via the Internet. How you choose to do it depends on your preferences and needs. Some people still talk directly from computer to computer without using a telephone handset. All they need is some software as provided by specific companies, a microphone to talk into and a sound card and speakers so they can hear the other caller. This was the preferred way in the beginning, but it limits the callers to sitting at their computers. Of course they need a high-speed Internet connection. The main advantage to this system is that there is no extra charge for the calls, no matter how far apart the callers are. Now that they can use telephones, most people would rather choose one of these options. A second use of VoIP phone systems is through the use of a special adapter. This device is usually called an ATA (analog telephone adapter). Phone calls in the past were always transmitted via analog signals. In recent years technology experts have learned how to convert the messages into data and transmit it digitally through computers. The adaptor we just mentioned allows your telephone to do that. When you choose a VoIP provider, they will send you the adapter with instructions for routing your phone calls over the Internet. The third way to use VoIP phone systems is with a telephone made especially for the computer. Some phone companies are jumping into the VoIP fray and they already make IP phones. If you use a wireless network in your home, you have a router to make it work. If you don't already have one, you'll need to buy one to connect your phone and computer via an Ethernet cord. It's pretty obvious that VoIP phone systems are here to stay. As the calls continue to improve, more people are choosing this as their preferred way of calling. Other Voice Over IP / VOIP articles |
