In Most Locations, You'll have Your Choice of VoIP Companies

If you're thinking about using voice over Internet Protocol in place of your old telephone service, you'll need to choose a service provider. Just take a ride on the information super highway (Internet) and you'll find that there are many VoIP companies to choose from. So how do you choose which one is the best for you?

The first thing you'll need to determine is which company provides connection in your area. For example in some smaller towns the main Internet carrier may not yet offer VoIP service. It's handier if they do because companies that offer the full service of Internet, digital television, and voice over Internet often offer a package deal to their customers that subscribe to all three. They also give you the convenience of paying for each one on a single bill.

If you don't see a VoIP company that you're familiar with, you may want to talk to your friends, co-workers, relatives, and neighbors. Often word-of-mouth is the best way to learn about various services. If you choose this route however, talk to more than one or two people. You may find someone who is highly satisfied or greatly disappointed with a particular company. You're better off finding a good cross-section.

You can also compare all of the companies in your area by visiting a comparison site on the Internet. Some sites offer across the board looks at services, prices, and ratings. Again, you'll want to pay attention. You may find someone that has a five star rating…and then a closer look shows that only one person gave feedback. Try to find VoIP providers with numerous customers talking about them.

You'll most likely find a VoIP company that charges significantly less than your local phone provider. Although price is an important component, remember that you often get what you pay for. If you pay a small amount but get poor quality, you really haven't gained anything.
