Online SchoolsThese Days it isn't a Matter of Finding an Online School, It's a Matter of Choosing from many Online SchoolsOnline schools took a while to catch on, as did the Internet. There were a few visionaries that knew the advantages of the web early on, but most of us needed to discover it at our own pace. In the case of online schools, the dam has burst. Not all the statistics are compiled for 2005, but projections show that nearly a million more students attended than the year beforeā¦2.6 million in 2004 and approximately 3.5 million in 2005. No wonder so many educational institutions offer online programs these days. They know that if they don't, students will just go somewhere else. Although there are a number of colleges, universities, and even high school programs that provide only virtual attendance, many traditional brick-and-mortar campuses now see the light. Online schools are convenient, offering flexible hours and little or no travel, and students love the opportunity to learn on their own terms. It's doubtful we'll ever see the end of campus life, but it's obvious that online schools are here to stay. In the early days of online schools class choices and degree programs were limited. Now it's hard to find something you can't study by accessing the Internet. Even disciplines requiring lab or classroom experience, allow much of the work to take place online. For example a teacher in many cases will do everything but student teach over the Internet. Someone in a medical discipline will attend most classes electronically, following up with clinical work at a nearby hospital. As this major trend in worldwide education continues to grow, we'll probably be amazed at what things will be made available through online study. Each of the online schools is a bit different, but they all offer students a less cumbersome way to go to class. Some colleges and universities offer accelerated learning opportunities. Students work hard, but they finish a quarter in half the time. Building on that idea, you can see that they'll earn their diplomas in half the time as well. For a busy working adult, perhaps with a family, this is a godsend. They're learning in the field of their choice and increasing their earning potential at the same time. Its common knowledge (as well as statistically true) that anyone with a bachelor's degree may double their salary during their working lifetime. Graduate students fare even better. In addition to the practical aspects, higher learning provides a sense of satisfaction and pride, as well as greater self-confidence. Other Articles: |
