Online College Courses OnlineIt's Easy to Sign up for College Courses OnlineOver a period of not that many years, we've gone from one room school houses out on the prairie to the ability to take fully-accredited college courses online. What a dramatic change! We can't even imagine what technology will bring us in the next 50 to 100 years! At the rate things are progressing, even the next decade will likely be adventurous. Online college courses are popular and successful beyond educators' wildest dreams. The concept began as an experiment to see if students would attend some of their classes electronically. They subscribed to a cable channel and watched the instructor in action as he or she taught the class. Although this format still exists, the format of choice is via the Internet. Colleges, universities, and other educational facilities conduct everything from registration to courses complete with instruction, discussion, individual and group projects, tests, and grades over the Internet. It's a dream come true for people that are housebound, live far from their school of choice, hate commuting, have full-time jobs, have families, need flexible hours, or just enjoy using their computers to do as much as they can. Most online college courses are structured the same way that they are when attended in person. There may be pre-requisites, a need for a high school diploma or GED, or other requirements. Not to worry, you usually can fulfill any of these including completing high school online as well. Once you qualify, you can sign up online, select your course of study or even just choose a class or two, and even pay your bill online. If your school needs transcripts or other records, electronic arrangements for transfer also take place. In many cases you do everything from start to finish using your keyboard and mouse. If you're interested in classes that will transfer to other schools or grant you a diploma that's accepted in the corporate arena, you'll want to check the accreditation of the school you wish to attend. The major names that you'll see advertised on the web are usually the best options - some of the lesser-known names have proven to be fraudulent or unaccredited. There have been some tragic cases where student spent a substantial amount of money thinking they were getting a valid degree, only to find out the school was not what they thought. Take the extra step and do some homework before you start online college courses -- you definitely don't want to complete hours of school homework only to learn it was for nothing! Other Articles: |
